Since 1998, I have been walking every morning – for about an hour. Inclement weather seldom keeps me from my morning trek around the neighborhood.

My walking habit began as an attempt to avoid taking medication to control high blood pressure and cholesterol. Eventually, I did begin getting those prescriptions filled, but the habit of taking a morning hike stuck.
About two years ago, I was asked to write a column for our local newspaper about my daily rambles. Now, each morning I look for writing fodder as I stroll along my way. I write about such things as the wildlife I observe, as well as my encounters with other morning walkers.
My daily walks not only benefit my physical well-being, but also my mind. These benefits are certainly worth getting up for each morning.
