Back in 1929 my daughter was two years old. My grandfather had died and it was the day of his funeral. We were ready to leave for the funeral, and I sent my young daughter to the outhouse. Grandpa had built it and made seats for three people. My grandpa was a very large man so one hole was very big, one smaller, then one down low for children. My daughter got up on the larger one and fell in. After a few minutes I went to see what the matter was and I had to get help to get her out and she sure was a mess to clean up before we could go on to the funeral. She has forgotten, but I never will.

Back in 1955 a call went out from the editors of the then Capper’s Weekly asking for readers to send in articles on true pioneers.
